Exclusive Boss Q&A: Jessica Herrin, Stella & Dot
Learn more about Jessica Herrin's time going undercover at her company, Stella & Dot.
What did you hope to accomplish while going undercover?
I wanted to be a fly on the wall at my own company, and truly confirm that we were ready to expand into a family of brands.
Which undercover job was the most difficult?
Working with Maria in our New York City Design Studio was the most difficult for me. It is really hard trying to make jewelry with fake nails!
Which employee's story touched you the most?
All the stories were incredibly touching, but I really related to Jade as a mother of two. Seeing how hard she works for her kids was inspiring.
What was the most surprising thing you learned while undercover?
How much our company mission is felt everywhere and how much people loved working at our company, but yet several didn¹t really see themselves advancing within the company. Amazing talented people in our Distribution center and call center need to know they can continue to grow within our company too.
How difficult was it to start your business while you were pregnant with your first child?
It was fueled by passion, so while it was a challenge, it was wonderful! I also love that I can think of my daughter Charlie as my co-founder- truly with me since day 1!
How did you feel when Grace figured out you were undercover?
I had a feeling she would, so I felt ridiculous and was so glad when the gig was up!
Are you still in touch with the employees today?
Of course- they are team members.
