The Klingon death howl alerts the afterlife (Sto-vo-kor) that a Klingon warrior is on the way. Until T'Kuvma brought back Kahless' teachings, Klingons did not think the bodies of the dead had meaning once their spirit had left. (From After Trek, Episode 1)

When deciding how many jumps Stamets should make, the writers originally chose 525,600—a nod to the song "Seasons of Love" in the musical Rent, which starred Anthony Rapp. When that number seemed too crazy, they settled on 133 as an homage to the 2004 Battlestar Galactica pilot, "33," written by Trek vet Ronald D.
