What are the storylines for the 2025 AFC Championship Game?

The Bills, the AFC East champs, and the No. 2 postseason seed in the AFC conference, scored a spot in Sunday's game by outlasting the Ravens in the Divisional round, 27-25. Previously, they downed the Broncos, 31-7, in Wild Card action. Now, they hit the road for their first outing this postseason outside of their Highmark Stadium..

The hosting Chiefs made it into Sunday's showdown by securing the AFC's No. 1 seed (on the strength of their conference-best, regular-season record and AFC West title), and then beating the Texans, 23-14, in their Divisional round game (after sitting out Wild Card weekend on a bye).

Allen's Bills and Mahomes' Chiefs last met in the AFC Championship Game four years ago. In the 2021 contest, the Chiefs denied the Bills, 38-24. The Chiefs moved on to Super Bowl LV (where they lost to Tom Brady's Buccaneers); the Bills went on to regroup. While the subsequent years saw the Chiefs return to Super Bowl play two more times (and win two more titles), the Bills struggled to make it past the Divisional round. Sunday's matchup will mark Allen and the Bills' first appearance in the AFC Championship Game since the 2021 NFL Playoffs.

So, the storylines are set: the Bills are looking to score for their franchise's first Super Bowl berth since the 1990s; the Chiefs are looking for a chance to score an unprecedented third-straight Super Bowl win.
