The show will offer an inside look at the movie production, from costuming and combat training, to the reconstruction of Ancient Rome. When was Gladiator (2000) released?

The first Gladiator movie from director Ridley Scott was released in theatres on May 5, 2000, en route to becoming one of the top-grossing movies of the year.

The film added to its legend when it won five Oscars®, including best picture, at the 73rd Academy Awards®.

Gladiator stars Russell Crowe, who won the best actor Oscar® for his iconic turn as Maximus. Connie Nielsen, Joaquin Phoenix, Oliver Reed, and Richard Harris also star.

Gladiator, now streaming on Paramount+, introduces us to the heroic Maximus (Russell Crowe), a man robbed of his name and dignity who strives to gain the freedom of his people. Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set. Years after witnessing the death of Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Commodus, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Ancient Rome with an iron fist.

In addition to Mescal, Gladiator II stars Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington.

Nielsen appears in both Gladiator and Gladiator II. Her character, Lucilla, is the mother of Lucius.
